October 8, 2025

The Climate Governance Commission and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL), in partnership with the International Environmental Court Coalition, co-hosted a full-day expert convening focused on advancing proposals for the establishment of an International Environmental Court (IEC).

The session brought together leading international legal scholars, environmental practitioners, and governance experts to refine the Court’s institutional design and explore strategic pathways for its implementation. Discussions centered on the structural and jurisdictional framework of the proposed Court, potential partnerships and political entry points, and next steps to advance the proposal toward realization.

The working dialogue marked an important milestone in the broader effort to strengthen the rule of law for the planet, enhancing global accountability and justice in addressing escalating environmental and climate challenges.
